Update ---- May 30 - On time was 8 am, off was solar day peak time of 4 pm, ...... we stored up 520 gallons at 120 F in 8 hours.
Btu Math = 70 gallons on Roof = 581 Lbs X 70 F (present) Increase using 125F = 40,670 BTU's) coming down - Free Sun ( Collector liquid capacity should be min 10 % to 15% or 20% for good performance of storage capacity ) Metered flow output = 2 GPM Flow rate = water in sun area = 35 minutes , 4 hours per day to cycle full 520 gallons = 2 cycles per 8 hr. day
If you use - 1/2" pipe = 40 ' per gal / 500'= 12.5 gal / or 1000' = 25 gal / 1200 = 30gal $100 (15 min in sun) / 1500' = 37 gal. 1'' pipe = (20 ft per gal) (100 ft = 5 gal) 2.5 min (300 ft =15 gal) 8 min in sun (1000' = 50gal ) (1500' = 75 gal ) time = 37 min in sun - (all times) based on 2 gal per minute flow
We only have (2) 80 gallon water heater presently ON requiring Electric power from the power Company to heat the water for the Entire 40 unit Apt. Complex. Thanks to the all day Solar sun water coming down from the roof, soon we will be on only (1) 80 Gallon unit for all of the 40 Apartments, Update - 1 unit is not enough on cloudy days , 2 does just fine Survey of 2006, I will install this year the multi pump mirco-controller board, I designed , will update you, when I do another survey 2007
Final Storage BTU's Before Electric Power Usage Will be 520 gallons X 8.3 LBS = 4,316 Lbs X increase temp from 55 well temp to about 130 degrees = 75 degrees increase or 323,700 Btu's from the sun before Electric Power is applied. ( 520 gallon of Night time 130 F degree Stored Solar Hot Water + Day time hot water usage included by system (24-7 ) System does +30 degrees increase on 65 degree cloudy days & about 75 degrees increase on 90 degree days / Remember were dealing with the full light spectrum ( Ir to Uv wave length ) not just Visible light @ 400-700 nanometers
