Meanwhile, Ian Bernstein has some preliminary PCB designs here, and you should definitely check out Bill Bigge's "Board Room."

The RobotRoom has its own take on building PCBs here; the Seattle Robotics Society's take on things is here; Bill Boucher's PCB building page is here.

Bruce Robinson posted some handy tips on PCB building to the BEAM list here.

I've now got a page on drill bit sizes (for use in PCB building) here

Photoresist PCB  or should I use this chemical on a normal board b4 the exposure process:   Electrolube Photo resist

If the above is correct, what do I do after exposing the PCB?

Thank you. Any guidance will be invaluable.

I used the Electrolube spray PR once but it is no longer available here now. It is also rather tricky to attain a good uniform covering.

I highly recommend Think Tinker dry film process. Not only the site is very well documented, a true tutorial on PCB processing among other things, but the dry film is easier to use and chemistry is easy to get and environmentally friendly to boot. It has been my best experience so far.

Look at the site left menu for the PCB processing manual.

How do you build a solar cell? Steps and materials need to start out with. Other substances, such as cadmium sulfide and gallium arsenide, are also used to make solar cells. Cadmium sulfide, although relatively cheap, has a low efficiency. Gallium arsenide is very efficient but also very costly. Additional methods of producing silicon cells--such as using amorphous, rather than crystalline, silicon--offer considerable promise.
Amorphous silicon cells, generated on a layer of film 1.5 µ thick and sandwiched between plate glass, have been installed in huge arrays. A California complex, built in 1992, covers five acres and generates 500 kW at a cost of about $0.25 per kilowatt hour. Thin-film cells are half as efficient as crystalline cells, but they cost considerably less to produce. New production methods may increase conversion efficiency to crystal-cell levels.

I print the file onto mylar film, then expose the boards under a darkroom negative viewer for 7 minutes, develop in dilute sodium hydroxide solution, wash in running water, etch with a combination of hydrogen peroxide and hydrochloric acid -- for the H2O2 I use the inexpensive pharmaceutical brand which is $0.39/qt -- straight, no dilution and for the HCl I use muriatic acid from the hardware store. just a few ml's of HCl "promote" the reaction.

A good rule of thumb to use, is to select a film that is at least twice as thick as the copper being covered. In more practical terms, if you are covering 1ounce (35 micron) copperclad, you should use a film that is at least twice as thick as the 0.0013" thick copper layer. For this application, a 3 mil (0.003") film would be preferred. Failure to follow this simple rule might result in thin, capillary gaps along the edges of pads and traces. These gaps are just about the perfect size to wick, and retain the corrosive fluxes used during wave and/or hand soldering, which could lead to the eventual failure of the board

R2, 10K resistor. (brown, black, orange), 1/8W.

R3, 330 resistor, (orange, orange, brown), 1/8W.

R4, 220 resistor, (red, red, brown), 1/4 W. Alternatively this may be 180 Ohm.

U2, 8-term socket. Align notch on the end of the socket with the silkscreen.

R5/P0, 2-terminal connector. Connect the shorting block as shown in the photo.

Placing this requires alignment of all terminals with the holes on the PCB. Check to be sure none of the terminals are bent. Place and gently turn back and forth, while exerting minimal pressure until the connector drops into place.

C1, C2, C3, 0.01 uFd ceraminc capcitors.

U1, 78L05, Voltage regulator. Align flat on the 78L05 with the silkscreen.

PWR, LED. Align flat on the LED with the silkscreen.

C4, 100 uFd, electrolytic capacitor. Align such that the minus on the cap is nearest the "C4" lable on the silkscreen.

C5, 250 uFd, electrolytic capacitor. Align the minus on the cap with the "-" on the silkscreen.
